A Memorial Service for Bette Prudden will be held at the Grosse Pointe Presbyterian Church on Monday, May 19 at 2 pm. 19950 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236

•Members Show and Emerging Artists Show at the Anton Art Center: Intake of accepted artwork is April 22, from 10:00am-1:00 pm.

•Saturday, April 26, 2025: Opening Reception, with Awards Ceremony starting 1:15 sharp.

Sadly, we report the death January 30, 2025 of Julie Sabit, longtime Society Historian. For her many services to DSWPS over the years, she was made an Honorary Member in 2016. Julie was a prolific artist who specialized in memorializing quirks in the everyday life of ordinary people. She was a reliable, good friend to all and leaves a large empty place in our numbers.

With great sadness, we report the death December 21, 2024, of Bette Prudden, a former president of DSWPS and an honorary member since 2016. She was known for pastel portraits, watercolors of flowing waters, leopard-spotted accessories, and high jinx. She will be sorely missed.

About DSWPS

The Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors is one of the oldest self-sustaining women's art organizations in the United States, having been founded by Lillian Burk Meeser on February 23, 1903. Its mission since inception has been to quicken interest in art movements of the day, to stimulate high achievement, active work, and mutual helpfulness among members, and to provide encouragement and support for art students. It achieves these ends by holding juried exhibitions of its members' work, sponsoring interesting and informative programs, and awarding an annual scholarship to a qualified woman student attending art classes in an accredited college.
